The Mātai Medical Research Institute, based in Gisborne, is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to shaping the future of medical research and innovation. Established in 2020, Mātai specialises in using cutting-edge medical imaging techniques to explore a range of health conditions, with a particular focus on brain health, concussion, and child well-being. Their research spans from studies ranging from concussion to supporting recovery pathways for methamphetamine and advancing prostate cancer research.
As the institute grew, the need for a purpose-built facility became clear to unify the team, research equipment, and MRI technology. Modo Flooring was engaged to deliver high-performance flooring and acoustic solutions that would meet the demands of this cutting-edge facility.
Solution
Modo Flooring provided a comprehensive range of flooring solutions, including durable carpet tiles, vinyl, and a small amount of tiling, as well as acoustic wall panels throughout the facility. These materials were selected for their durability and ability to withstand heavy foot traffic while contributing to the modern, collaborative environment. Acoustic wall panels were installed to reduce noise in shared workspaces, fostering better communication and concentration. Modo worked closely with an interior designer company, ID Workshop, and an acoustic engineer to tailor the flooring and acoustic solutions to the specific needs of the facility.
Outcomes
The opening of Mātai Institute’s new facility in April 2024 has created a welcoming and inspiring environment for the team. This purpose-built space has not only strengthened collaboration but also provides a comfortable, modern setting that supports both focused work and shared creativity where staff and researchers can thrive.
